Last week, after six intensive months of the programme, 22 educational activists, researchers and changemakers from 13 European countries completed Bridge 47’s Transformative Learning Journey.

Together, they had spent the past half year exploring questions around the potential of Global Citizenship Education (GCE) for transformative learning and systemic change, as well as reconfiguring their own assumptions of change and education. In a practical sense, the journey involved experimenting with new and different forms of education and action, while receiving support and mentoring from the Bridge 47 team of facilitators and their fellows.

The programme followed a holistic approach, offering learning opportunities not only on the intellectual level but also on the affective, embodied and relational dimensions. By doing so, the collective learning journey worked to challenge and decolonize common (eurocentric) concepts of knowing, learning, relating and being.

Ultimately, the multitude of experiences were collected and reflected upon during Bridge 47’s Global Event in Belgrade, informing and further innovating new approaches to GCE. The group is eager to pursue close collaboration also now after the program.

“TLJ changed my life!” was the conclusion of one the participants.
